Phillip Tutor is the commentary editor. A native Tennessean who began his career at The Birmingham News in 1988, he's worked at The Star since September of 1989 in a variety of roles: First as the paper's Alabama beat writer for nine years, then as assistant sports editor/columnist for two more years. He has since served as The Star's sports editor, news editor and managing editor. He lives in Golden Springs with his wife, Laura, and two children.

While standing on the McClellan hill, bundled from the November chill, the sights and sounds smacked you squarely between the eyes. It was an inescapable blow. Soldiers, most German, a few Italian, lay entombed at your feet.
