Mike Stedham will again mystify audiences with one of his mystery/comedy plays A Brush with Death on June 11 and 12 at the Alabama Power Auditorium in Anniston. The play’s action, takes place at an art exhibit for a retiring art teacher, Mrs. Greene, (played by Debby Mathews). The plot involves greed and motives by all the characters for the crime. One character, Scarlet, (played by Denise Davis of Jacksonville) has become an internationally acclaimed artist since the school days, and her classmates are jealous of her.

The dinner theater will be catered by Classic on Noble. Curtain time is 6 p.m. both evenings. The fee is $50 per person. Those interested in coming are encouraged by make reservations by the end of the day on June 4 by calling 256 236-0391. The play benefits the Anniston chapter of the American Red Cross, an organization that has many projects.

“The proceeds will directly fund the organization’s emergency response efforts, which range from setting up emergency relief shelters in the wake of a national disaster to the everyday task of helping our neighbors deal with the aftermath of a house fire, “ said Brandon Glover, event coordinator and a advisory board member of this chapter of the Red Cross.

Stedham, who has written four mystery/comedies, is manager of student media at Jacksonville State University. He is a founding member of the board of directors for CAST, he has acted in productions and has directed plays for both CAST and the Junior League of Anniston-Calhoun.

In the plot, there are the classmates of Scarlet, the doctor, the inspector, the CSI agents and magazine writer who wants the scoop at all costs, the photographer, the bullfighter, and more uncommon personalities, all of whom may be quilty. The table at dinner that guesses the real culprit wins a prize.

The Alabama Power building and auditorium is on Quintard Avenue in Anniston. There will be a $5 corking fee for those who bring wine.

“I’ve always beem fascinated with mysteries,” Stedham said. “And I love making people laugh. But heed the hints and clues because there’a mystery to solve.”

It should be a fun evening. Everyone is invited.
