• The ACE Quality of Life committee will meet Thursday, May 6th in the Profile Mill Room of the Jacksonville Community Center.  The brown bag lunch lasts from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Speakers will be library director Barbara Rowell on “Library Resources” and band director Jeff Gossett on “Concert Resources.”  Members of the community are welcome to attend.

• A National Day of Prayer ceremony will be held on May 6th from noon to 1 p.m. on Jacksonville’s Public Square. (In case of rain, the event will be moved into council chambers at Jacksonville’s City Hall) Speakers include Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith, Council Woman Sandra Sudduth and Faith Baptist Temple’s pastor, T.R. Harper. Music will be provided by Barry Hardy, Laurence Key, Eleanor Ontiberous and Carol Ledbetter just to name a few. Camp Louis’ Color Guard will be on site as well.

• The Joy Quilters Guild will meet Thursday, May 6th at 9a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville. Everyone is invited.

• Kindergarten registration for Kitty Stone Elementary will be held on May 10-13th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Students will last names ending in A-H will be registered on May 10th. Registration for students with last names ending with I-P will be held on May 11th. Q-Z registration will be held on May 12th. A make-up day will be on May 13th. Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted during registration. Special note: The blue immunization form must be up-to-date before a student is assigned to a class. Pre-Registration Requirements: 1. The child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2010 2. Official Birth Certificate 3. Alabama Immunization Card 4. Proof of Residency (recent power bill, phone, etc. with address) 5. Social Security Card 6. • The second plant sale of the season sponsored by the Calhoun County Master Gardeners/Tree Amigos Program, will be held Saturday, May 15th at The Anniston Museum of Natural History. Unusual perennials for sun and shade, trees, and shrubs will be available at the sale from 9 AM until 1 PM or until all the plants are sold. The sale benefits the 4H program at the Coosa Valley Attention Home. For more information contact the Calhoun County Extension System Office at 1-256-237-1621.

• Ladies, come pray with us on the square in Jacksonville the first Thursday of each month at 10 AM. We will be praying for our city: our churches and pastors, our schools and children, our officials and businesses. If you have questions, call Polly Angelette at 435-7016

• West Side Baptist Church is having Cafe’ Style Worship Service on Sunday mornings in the Youth Center (formerly the fellowship hall) located at 713 Mountain St. NW at 8:30 a.m. The service features a relaxed acoustic style worship featuring rotating acoustic worship leaders and Biblical based messages that are relevant to daily life.  There will be coffee, hot chocolate, hot tea and donuts available beginning at 8 a.m. when the Youth Center is opened for the morning experiences at West Side. Childcare will be available and Bible study small groups will follow at 9:30 a.m. The church also invites couples aged 19 to 35 to experience a new Bible study class on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. There are classes for children of the young couples during this Bible Study time too. • The Jacksonville High School Golden Eagle Band is looking for donations to their Clyde Cox Memorial Fund. This fund goes directly to the purchase of instruments for students to use. All donations are tax-deductible. You can send donations to JHS Band Boosters, PO Box 208, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Please mark them for the Clyde Cox fund.
