While the teams didn’t qualify as a team to go to the state track meet, several members of the track team will be making the trip to Gulf Shores this weekend to represent the school.
The boys’ team finished with 93 points coming in second to Sectional winner, Lincoln, who finished with 136 points.
The top six spots in each event at Sectionals qualified for state.
400 meter, Deonte Elston, 3rd; 3200 meter, Ben Pryor, 4th; 300 meter hurdles, Jecolby Heard, 3rd; 4x100 relay, Jacksonville “A” 4th (Jakeel Carter, Jervon Cowden, Travis Dunn, Jecolby Heard); 4x400 meter relay, Jacksonville “A” 2nd (Jervon Cowden, Deonte Elston, Dakota Franks, Tyler Ross); 4x800 meter relay, Jacksonville “A” 2nd (Deonte Elston, Troy Garrick, Ben Pryor, Alex Rowan); Pole Vault, Jacob Whitmore, 1st, (Brian Pryor came in 2nd in sectionals but did not have the minimal requirements for state); shot put, Stephen Waters, 3rd; Knox Newell 6th; Discus, Stephen Waters, 2nd, Knox Newell, 4th; javelin, Stephen Waters, 2nd.
The JHS girls’ team, which finished in 10th place overall (Anniston took the top spot) had four girls qualify for the state meet.
Taylor Palmer came in third in the discus with Caroline Neisler finishing 4th.
Palmer, a senior, is back on the track team after taking a year off. Palmer won the state discus championship as a tenth grader.
In javelin, Mallory McGuire came in 4th place and Meagan Cabrer 5th.
