Anyone who walks into Lindsey Bagley’s classroom at Jacksonville High School will quickly understand her love for her students. Teaching special education, Bagley deals with a multitude of students, each with his or her unique way of learning. Unfortunately, the lack education money sometimes makes teaching to such a variety of needs can sometimes be hard. Now, thanks to a local television station, Bagley and her students will get a little help.

The local CBS affiliate’s news program has a program called ‘One Class at a Time’ in which it gives $1,000 grants to Alabama teachers who need it most. Bagley has been selected as the newest recipient of the grant.

“I am tickled to death,” said Bagley.

Bagley said that she plans to spend the money on a new smartboard, an interactive whiteboard.

“We will be able to do all kinds of activities,” said Bagley. “We can get on the Internet. It’s hands on learning for the kids. Instead of using a mouse they can use their fingers and touch the screen with it. We can do powerpoints, videos and games all in one package.”

According to Bagley, the smartboard will help meet the needs of all the children in her classroom.

“My kids need that smartboard,” said Bagley. “We will use it just as much if not more than any other classroom because my kids are all on such different levels. We have got the highest of the high with autistic children to the lowest of the low with MR and CP and they can all come together and use this smartboard together. It teaches at all different levels. It is absolutely impossible for me to by reading materials that cover each and every level.”

The CBS affiliate also came to Jacksonville to film Bagley, her kids and her instructional assistants. During filming, they presented the check to her as well.

Bagley said that the story would run on the station April 28th during the newscasts at six p.m. and 10 p.m. The spot will also be available for viewing on the Internet at the station’s website.
