• You are invited to Lunch and Learn, a series of free gardening programs sponsored by Calhoun County Master Gardeners and the Calhoun County Commission held the 4th Wednesday of each month at the Cane Creek Community Gardens at McClellan.Programs are from noon to 1 p.m.; please bring your own lunch. On April 28th Dr. Eve Brantley of The Alabama Cooperative Extension System will discuss “Using Rainwater in Your Landscape.” For more information please call 237-1621.

• Scholastic Buy One, Get One FREE book fair April 28-30. It will be held in the Kitty Stone Elementary Library from 8:15 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

• The Living Museum Fair on the Square, Saturday, May 1st, 9 a.m. -3 p.m. The event is free to public. Come join the fun and check out all the exhibitors as they display and sell their art!

• The next meeting of the Quality of Life committee will be Thursday, May 6 at 11:30 a.m.  If the Public Library renovations are complete, we will meet there; otherwise at the Jacksonville Community Center.  Speakers will be library director Barbara Rowell on “Library Facilities” and band director Jeff Gossett on “Concert Facilities.”

• There will be a Trade Day at Nances Creek Community Center on Saturday, May 1 at 7 a.m. Admission is free. For more information call 256-447-9612 or 256-447-7039.

• Decoration, all day May 1 at Littlejohn Cemetery, Sulphur Springs Road N., Piedmont. Please remove old flowers one week before decoration. Donations may be made to Littlejohn Cemetery Fund at Farmers & Merchants Bank, Piedmont or to Garland Estes, 256-447-8724.

• A National Day of Prayer ceremony will be held on May 6 from noon to 1 p.m. on Jacksonville’s Public Square. (In case of rain, the event will be moved into council chambers at Jacksonville’s City Hall) Speakers include Jacksonville Mayor Johnny Smith, Council Woman Sandra Sudduth and Faith Baptist Temple’s pastor, T.R. Harper. Music will be provided by Barry Hardy, Laurence Key, Eleanor Ontiberous and Carol Ledbetter just to name a few. Camp Louis’ Color Guard will be on site as well.

• Kindergarten registration for Kitty Stone Elementary will be held on May 10-13th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Students will last names ending in A-H will be registered on May 10th. Registration for students with last names ending with I-P will be held on May 11th. Q-Z registration will be held on May 12. A make-up day will be on May 13. Vision and hearing screenings will be conducted during registration. Special note: The blue immunization form must be up-to-date before a student is assigned to a class. Pre-Registration Requirements: 1. The child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2010 2. Official Birth Certificate 3. Alabama Immunization Card 4. Proof of Residency (recent power bill, phone, etc. with address) 5. Social Security Card 6.
