The wins, though, didn’t come easy.
While Pleasant Valley dispatched of Ohatchee easily, along the way the Lady Raiders met Wellborn twice and each game was a battle.
On Friday, Pleasant Valley defeated Wellborn 6-5. Megan Strickland stole two bases and scored two runs. Maranda Tisdale picked up the win in reliefe pitching two innings of no-hit ball.
On Saturday, the Lady Raiders had to rally from to pick up a 3-2 victory over the Lady Panthers. Pleasant Valley scored two runs in the final innings.
Savanah Tant and Ashley Bryant got on the final inning and were driven in by a two-run single off the bat of Madie Tipton.
In addition to the strong tournament, Pleasant Valley also got off to a strong start in its area play. The Lady Raiders knocked off Weaver 4-2 in the Class 3A, Area 10 opener.
Tisdale and Amber Cochran combined to strike out nine and allow just two hits.
Tipton and Amber Pruitt each had a hit and RBI.
Bryant and Taylor Porter each tallied two stolen bases and scored a run.
JCA
You never know – especially when two offensive-minded teams get together. That was the case this week when Cedar Bluff and Jacksonville Christian faced off.
After just one inning of play, JCA jumped out to a five-run lead. But just as quick as the Thunder jumped out, Cedar Bluff struck back with eight runs in the bottom of the inning.
The day didn’t calm down much. JCA split the doubleheader, falling 14-11 in the first game before pulling out a 13-5 win.
In the Game 1 slugfest, Katy Miller led the way going 4-for-5. Jordan Parker went 3-for-4 and Kandace Postell 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Bethany Bridges, Jeleesa Mitchell and Amber Williams each recorded two hits.
In the second game, Postell was a one-woman wrecking crew, picking up the win and going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.
Holly James was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3. Bridges went 4-for-5 and Miller 2-for-4.
JCA now stands at 6-3 after taking the weekend off.
White Plains
The Lady Wildcats don’t have the best record in the county, but they put together one of the better weeks.
They defeated Pleasant Valley 2-0, and then captured the always elusive no-hitter --- in an area contest, no less.
Against Pleasant Valley, Anna Snider was the star.
She went the distance in the circle, hurling a three-hitter, and at the plate went 2-for-4.
Mogan Cobb added two hits, including a RBI. Kiley Ponder also had two hits.
The no-hitter was a mercy-rule shortened affair as they picked up a 16-0 victory over Piedmont.
It was Snider picking up the no-no. Shanea Cromer led the way at the plate going 3-for-3 with five RBIs. Mikayla Owen was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Jordan Coleman blasted a three-run homer.
