For the first time since 2004, the Jacksonville Golden Eagles will once again participate in the Northeast Regional tournament at JSU.

The Eagles will play Thursday at 10:30 against Oneonta, a team that the Eagles have already faced and beaten.

Jacksonville beat Oneonta by nine points to win the Van Deerman Christmas Classic in December.

Jacksonville played two games last week on the road to the Regional Tournament, beating Cherokee County 85-69 to win the Area Tournament championship, and then beat Plainview in a rout 86-45 in their sub-region game.

Jacksonville (22-7), played last week like a team on a mission, and no one was going to get in their way.

The Eagles, who have gotten stronger and stronger as the season has progressed, outscored Cherokee County 23-6 in the second quarter to put the game out of reach. The Eagles led 43-22 going into the locker room at the end of the half.

In the second half the Eagles went up by as much as 25 points but Cherokee County went on a run to cut the lead down to 14. Jacksonville went up again in the fourth quarter by 22 and Coach Anthony Kingston was able to give the players on his bench some quality playing time.

Tristan Garmon led the charge with an amazing double-double of 28 points and 21 rebounds. Senior guard Ethan Maske added 16 points and five assists, Robert Quinn contributed 13 points, Deonte Elston 10 points and seven rebounds, Josh Willis nine points, Jordan Shelvin seven points and Nick Quinn two points.

The Eagles took on Plainview in the sub-region game. Plainview, with a 5-22 record, was no match for the Golden Eagles.

The first quarter was pretty respectable with Jacksonville holding a 19-12 lead but the Eagles outscored their opponent 19-10 in the second quarter to go on top 38-22 at the end of the second half.

In the second half there was just too much Tristan Garmon, too much Ethan Maske, too much Eagle speed, too much full-court pressure for Plainview to handle.

The Eagles jumped out to a 42-22 lead on baskets by Garmon and Maske to start out the third quarter.

Jacksonville kept the pressure on and Plainview couldn’t go inside with Garmon standing sentry on defense and had trouble shooting from the outside. Plainview finished the game 17-of-50 from the floor. The tenacious Eagle defense forced Plainview into 25 turnovers. The Eagles were on top 64-33 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter Garmon erupted for two quick baskets and Maske for one and with the Eagles up 68-35 with 6:30 left to go in the game Coach Kingston gave his substitutes on the bench playing time.

Garmon had an excellent night once again for Jacksonville shooting 11-for-15 from the field for 24 points and had six blocks, five rebounds and three steals.

Maske had 16 points for the Eagles with seven steals; Deonte Elston had eight points and seven rebounds and Josh Willis also contributed eight points.

Also scoring for Jacksonville were Terencio Delks with seven points and nine rebounds, Knox Newell with seven points, Micah Maxwell five, Jordan Shelvin and Tyler Ross four, Hunter Green two and Demetrius Williams one point.

The Golden Eagles out rebounded Plainview 40-15 and had 22 offensive rebounds.
