If the end of 2009 is any indication for what is in store for 2010, White Plains should be proud.

The Wildcats started this season dealing with the loss of many key players from last season's team. The inexperience showed as White Plains' first 10 games of the season translated into a 4-6 record.

But as the younger players are beginning to gain experience, the results are starting to show.

White Plains closed out 2009 with three wins in five games. The Wildcats defeated Faith Christian (77-72), Woodland (60-48) and Ranburne (30-24).

White Plains now stands one game below .500 on the season with the Calhoun County Tournament on the horizon. The Wildcats drew an 11 seed in the recent meeting of the respective coaches.

This week the Wildcats (7-8) will play Woodland, Piedmont and Weaver. The last two games, both area contests, will be played at home.

Pleasant Valley

The Holiday surge wasn't contained to just White Plains. The Raiders have showed a spark heading into 2010, as well.

A total of four points separated Pleasant Valley from being undefeated in its tournament run that closed out the old year. The Raiders lost to Jacksonville 67-65 in the Van Deerman Classic and host Gaston, 69-67, in the Gaston Christmas Tournament.

The Raiders scored victories over Woodland, Faith Christian and Weaver. The 13-point win over the Bearcats avenged a 16-point loss, which came in early December.

Pleasant Valley (10-7) earned a No. 8 seed for the upcoming Calhoun County Tournament.

Jacksonville Christian

After starting the 2009 season so strong, Jacksonville Christian couldn't fine that same magic as the year came to a close.

In the Coosa Christian Christmas Classic and its own JCA Holiday Classic, the Thunder suffered three losses to fall to 9-6 on the season. The most disturbing of those losses came against Ragland, 41-36.

The Thunder had already defeated area foe Ragland twice this season, both times by sizable margins — 53-37 and 51-42.

The good news of that for Jacksonville Christian — if there is any — is that the Thunder's most recent loss won't impact its standing in the upcoming area tournament, since it was a tournament game and not an area counter.

As for the nearest tournament, the Calhoun County, JCA received a 12 seed. The tournament begins on Saturday.
