Thank goodness for Wellborn.

That might as well be the sentiment for White Plains as this season has gotten off to a very uncharacteristic start for the Wildcats (2-3).

While the season is young, White Plains has already seen the Panthers twice — and the county foe accounts for both of White Plains' wins.

The most recent victory (56-47), which game in the Daniel Davenport Classic over the Thanksgiving holidays, was one where the Wildcats had to rally from an early 14-2 deficit.

Ian Hendry sparked the comeback, scoring 14 of his 17 points in the third quarter.

From there, he handed it over to Konnor Amis, who had 11 of his game-high 19 points in the final stanza.

Nick Harris took care of the duties on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Woodland and Wellborn are ahead on the schedule this week for White Plains before the Wildcats take a week off for the academic testing.

Pleasant Valley

After dropping the season opener to Faith Christian 82-75, the charges of first-year coach Brad Hood have responded nicely to win their next three games, the most recent of which against Glencoe came in area play.

Balanced scoring looks to be the key for the Raiders (3-1) as different players have stepped up to lead the Raiders in scoring.

In a 52-45 win over Spring Garden, it was Joe Faucett, who turned in an 18-point effort.

In a 61-46 win over Ohatchee, it was Zade Adams, who had led a very balanced effort with 13 points.

In the season opening loss, Michael Lockridge led the way with 22 points.

Wellborn, Hokes Bluff and Weaver are ahead on the schedule for Pleasant Valley this week before the Raiders join the rest of the county to take part in academic testing.

Jacksonville Christian Things are looking up in Jacksonville, as the Thunder is undefeated on the early season.

With a pair of lopsided wins over Georgia School for the Deaf and Whitesburg Christian (located near Huntsville), Jacksonville Christian gutted an overtime win out over county foe Ohatchee, 49-46.

Against the Indians, Cameron Wilson missed a pair of free throws in regulation, only to extend the lead to three points in the extra period ensuring the Thunder the victory. Wilson finished with 11 points. Matt Crook and Jacob Bollinger both logged double-doubles for the Thunder (3-0) to pace the win. Crook had 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Bollinger had a dozen of each. "We felt fortunate to win that one," coach Tommy Miller said.

It's a great start for the Thunder, which have had a great deal to overcome already this basketball season. Stephen Hurst transferred to Pleasant Valley before the school year started, and both Ward Reid and David Parris will likely not be able to play this season due to illnesses. "We're going to be real thin," Miller said.

The biggest tests for JCA lie ahead this week with Donoho, Victory Christian and Alexandria all on the schedule.
