The national philanthropy for Zeta Tau Alpha is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Nationally, ZTA works with Yoplait Yogurt, the NFL, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Locally, ZTA members participate in the "Race for the Cure" in Birmingham and the "Walk for the Cure" in Jacksonville. They also hold fundraisers throughout the year.
Think Pink Week is ZTA's fall fundraiser and was kicked off by the placing of over 400 pink ribbons around the city. The majority of the ribbons were placed Sunday afternoon. It took a team of around 65 members four hours to cover poles and signs around Pelham Road.
Residents and businesses are given the opportunity to purchase a ribbon for a donation of at least $10 a ribbon and place it around the home, office, or store. For more information on how to donate and get a pink ribbon to place around a home or business, call Kelsey Butler at 256-454-9996.
ZTA members invite residents to join them for more Think Pink Week fun at the Saturday's football game at JSU. They will be selling pink men's shirts and pink biodegradable balloons for a pre-game balloon release. The football team's helmets will have pink ribbons on them, as well as the members of the band and cheerleaders. The Gamecocks will be playing their last game of the season Saturday against Eastern Kentucky and will kickoff at noon.
The ribbons will stay up until the end of Think Pink Week on Nov. 22.

Nice to see that stigma doesn't reach all the way to the media--who didn't cover the event.
Good for them-breast health is a much more acceptable topic. As if pink ribbons and pink products don't overpower us on cars and in stores.
Perhaps you find me rude? Well-as a family with both breast cancer and mentally illness survivors-I have to say that the mentally ill suffer more.
