Friday night the Jacksonville Golden Eagles will be playing in their first playoff game in 10 years. They readied for what lies ahead with a 26-12 waxing of Wellborn in their final regular season game.

The Eagles (7-3) will now face Midfield (9-1) in round one of the playoffs at Midfield.

Golden Eagle Coach Roland Houston says that Midfield, "has a very big defensive front that runs well. They are probably as good of a defensive front as we'll face all year.

"They throw the ball a lot and have real tall receivers and a quarterback that's pretty good. They will run a spread offense, double twins and a lot of vertical routes. You won't be No.1 in your region and not be good."

The Eagles tuned-up for their game with Midfield by once again showing offensive dominance with 447 yards rushing in their win over Wellborn.

Jacksonville put 26 points on the board before Wellborn finally scored in the fourth quarter.

The Golden Eagles saw three runners go over the century mark with senior fullback Stephen Waters leading the way with 123 yards rushing on 13 carries and two touchdowns.

Sophomore running back Cordero Little tacking on 117 yards on 14 carries for one touchdown.

Sophomore quarterback Forrest Pearson going over 100 yards for the second week in a row with 111 yards rushing on seven attempts and a touchdown.

The Eagles scored the first touchdown on a four yard-run up the middle by Waters on a drive that had started on their 38-yard line.

Moments later, just as the second quarter had gotten underway, Pearson broke loose around the left end and sprinted 69-yards to the end zone.

Brock Sanderson kicked his second extra point to put the Eagles up 14-0.

The Eagles scored again before the half when Little powered his way in from 11 yards out for a 20-0 lead.

Jacksonville tacked on its final touchdown of the game in the final moments of the third quarter when Waters once again found pay dirt on a one-yard run.

Wellborn running back Delrickus Rhoden led all rushers with 243 yards and two touchdowns, one a 48-yard touchdown run to close out the scoring.

Jacksonville once again had top-notch performances from many of its players.

Waters was also a standout on defense with four hits, three tackles for loss and one quarterback sack.

Noah Whaley was credited with 12 hits, Zach Shadoan 10 hits and Joey Thompson and Randy Wood both had eight hits. Immanuel Holifield had an interception to stop a Wellborn drive and Demetrius Williams recovered an on-sides kick.

"You've got to give Wellborn a lot of credit," said Houston. "They are a physical team and they play hard. They didn't make mistakes."

"I thought No. 25 (Rhoden) was as good a back as we've seen this year. We hit him and he just got up and kept going.

"He got better as the game went on. I was looking for that clock to run out because I didn't want us to get into a situation where all he needed was one run to beat us because he's very dangerous."
