Friday night marked the first time this year Pleasant Valley was out of its game at pretty much all points as the Raiders were shut out for the first time in 2009, 36-0, to Glencoe.

This Friday night, however, marks the first time since early in the season that Pleasant Valley will face an opponent with a record similar to its.

Pleasant Valley and Weaver face off Friday night in Pleasant Valley with both teams winless on the season. Someone will get to avoid a goose egg for the season, in what could be the final opportunity for either team to pick up a win.

And while it may only be one victory, to the overall mindset of a program, it can be bigger than one might think.

"Now it's not as bad as losing 30 in a row," Pleasant Valley coach Jeff Davis said, referring to the Raiders' history. "That's tough to get off of you.

"But a win right now, that could be huge going into the offseason."

After playing three teams atop the region in consecutive weeks, Pleasant Valley the game against Weaver is a welcomed reprieve.

In the battle for last place in the region, Pleasant Valley looks to be a decided favorite. While both teams are winless, Pleasant Valley has been decidedly more competitive this season.

Weaver has suffered three shutouts, while Pleasant Valley's first didn't come until the first past week.

And the shutout Glencoe handed the Raiders left the boys in blue feeling a wee bit snakebit.

Glencoe blocked a Pleasant Valley, which turned into point.

The Yellow Jackets later recovered a Raider fumble with only 23 yards to drive for a touchdown.

Kyle Bean also broke a 60-yard run, only to be brought down at the 5, where he fumbled.

"We just self destructed again," Davis said. "Now, our defense played lights out for the first half … in the third quarter, though, they did what they wanted to do when they wanted to do it.

"How bad was it? It was bad."
