Plans are back on track for the new softball field at Jacksonville High School. In a special meeting, the Planning Commission approved the development review of the girls' softball field and the band practice field.

The plans were tabled at the last Planning Commission meeting. At that meeting, issues dealing with mapping and blueprints held the project from going forward. With the changes that were made to the plans, City Planner Lynn Causey said the project could now be issued a building permit.

Jay Jenkins from Munroe and Jenkins Architects LLC was present at the meeting. Jenkins brought with him updated site plans to discuss the changes that had been made.

"What you see before you is an accurate statement of what is going on," Jennings said. "We have resurveyed it and got it accurate."

Jenkins said that they have revised the plan to address concerns by the council.

Changes to the plans include four handicap parking spaces with van accessibility spaces in-between whereas before they were just two handicap spaces. There are new walkways added from the handicap parking to the facilities. The walkways will have two 12-inch reinforced concrete pipes added so the drainage can flow underneath.

Lighting has also been improved. Two more 70-foot light poles have been added to the field, making a total of six instead of four. Two 40-foot light poles were shifted closer to the center of the band practice field in order to preclude any illumination going onto adjacent properties.
