An open letter to the people of Piedmont and Jacksonville,

I am writing to set the record straight on a recent misunderstanding. For years, I have supported the schools in my legislative district and their athletic programs. I have done this in many ways, including advertising programs in The Piedmont Journal and The Jacksonville News and other papers. I have placed the ads both as a public servant and through my business.

This year, however, some new people were handling my account, and some of my ads were omitted from the football section of The Jacksonville News and The Piedmont Journal. My grocery (Food Outlet) was placed in the football section of The Jacksonville News in error. We have found that people making out their grocery lists don't look in the sports section, and I feel my business suffered because of this error.

While I don't run up and down the sidelines at every game, I try to attend as many local high school games as possible. The people of Piedmont, Jacksonville, Pleasant Valley and White Plains have always been kind to me and hold a special place in my heart. Beginning in 1998 as your Calhoun County Commissioner and continuing into my terms as District 40's State Representative, I have run ads in The Piedmont Journal and The Jacksonville News with my name and telephone numbers to make myself available to you at any time. I think a public servant should be easily accessible to the people of his district. I have valued the friendship and support of the fine people in the Piedmont and Jacksonville area. Recently, however, I have heard from several of my constituents in the Piedmont and Jacksonville areas who were disappointed in my not supporting their teams through advertising in The Jacksonville News, The Piedmont Journal and other newspapers.

I want to set this record straight. My ads in the football section of local newspapers were omitted by error through miscommunication.

Thank you, and good luck to all the teams in my district. Have great seasons and bring home those wins.

Lea Fite

State Representative

District 40
