Rep. Mike Rogers is not helping solve the problem, Rogers is the problem. Rogers allegedly told a Realtors group in Montgomery how nice it was to be called “honey” and “sweetie” by a woman at an Alabama restaurant instead of in a D.C. men’s room.

I am sorry if Mike got hit on in D.C. and he is obviously having some trouble getting it off his mind. This type of homophobic behavior is unacceptable, and we are demanding that he apologize to the thousands of gays in our great state.

We are competing with other states for economic investment, and this stereotype that backward comments promulgate are the exact thing companies want to avoid being around. They not only offend the gay Alabamians who deserve better, but it also harms our state’s financial interest and sets a very bad example for our state’s young people.

Our students our entering a world where this type of behavior is a stumbling block to success. Our message is clear: Rogers should apologize and keep bigoted comments to himself.
