The bad news: Last week’s surprisingly intense snowstorm caught many by surprise.

The good news: The crisis put on prominent display the heroes who walk among us.

As Tuesday’s weather caused automobile accidents, stranded motorists, prevented schoolchildren from going home and generally brought disorder to our community, northeast Alabamians stepped up to help their neighbors in need. We’re calling them “snow angels,” these good Samaritans who went the extra mile to help out during a crisis. Their good deeds remind us of the true character of our community, and that is great news.
