Re “Bentley’s Alabama; State needs new ideas for 2014, not rehash governor’s policies” (Editorial, Jan. 15):

After reading The Star’s editorial, I was quite amused at your hypocrisy. Venturing to say that most everything in Alabama, including your newspaper, “needs new ideas” would be an understatement.

I’ve been around the world a few times and have lived in places that have greatly surpassed Alabama and much of the United States by fostering new ideas and implementing them to their respective advantages. As a result, not only have the economies of these places vastly improved, but also has the quality-of-life for their citizens.

While temporarily residing in your fair state, I took it upon myself to observe and make note of what keeps Alabama so far behind. I have accumulated enough notes to fill a book. Since my opinion is limited to 200 words, I couldn’t possibly begin to reveal the results of my observations or offer any suggestions for improvements here. Expanding your Speak Out column to include new ideas would be a good start in offsetting Bentley, et. al., and their “... shrug of indifference …,” and yours, also.
