Police arrested an Anniston man Friday on charges that he struck his 4-year-old nephew with a belt.

Lester Earl Ludlow, 48, of Anniston, was charged with felony child abuse, according to a warrant for his arrest.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the abuse occurred between Dec. 24 and Dec. 26 in Ludlow’s home on the 200 block of East 54th Street.

George said a family member called police after discovering bruises on the boy, including bruising around his eye.

George said the Calhoun Cleburne Children’s Center and the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office also were involved with the case. On Dec. 30, the victim was interviewed by a Children’s Center worker and made statements that led workers to believe he had been abused, the captain said.

George said the case was handed over to the Calhoun County District Attorney’s Office and a warrant was signed by a magistrate for Ludlow’s arrest on Thursday.

Ludlow was released from the Anniston City Jail on a 15,000 bond Friday, according to a jail worker. He is to appear in court on Feb. 20, according to court records.
