Prep basketball roundup: Gilbert leads White Plains to win on home floor

WHITE PLAINS — There’s no place like home for the White Plains Wildcats. The Wildcats won on their home floor for the sixth time in seven outings Saturday by defeating Cleburne County 75-59. The win snapped a brief two-game losing streak from a post-Christmas tournament in Freeport, Fla.

Nathan Gilbert tallied 18 of his game-high 32 points in the second half. Murphy Doss had 20 points and Tyler Hardcastle scored 11. Eli Hightower dished out 11 assists for White Plains. Jerod Guthrie was 7-for-8 at the free throw line down the stretch.

Christian Henson and Max Prichard led Cleburne County with 19 points apiece.

White Plains (8-8) entertains Woodland Thursday with tipoff set for 1 p.m.

Spring Garden 61, Collinsville 46: Seniors Will Ivey and Will Westbrook each recorded a double-double as Spring Garden edged visiting Collinsville in Class 1A, Area 10 play.

Westbrook contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds. Ivey had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jacob Black netted 13 points as Spring Garden improved to 4-1 in Area 10 and moved into a tie for the area title.

Hokes Bluff 59, Piedmont 45: At 7-foot-2, Hokes Bluff center Isaac Haas was too much for the Bulldogs. Haas, at least 12 inches taller than the tallest Piedmont player, scored 22 points for the Eagles.

Denard Spears had 12 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Bulldogs. Darnell Jackson recorded nine points, five rebounds and two steals and Taylor Hayes netted eight points for Piedmont.

Girls

Donoho 44, Sacred Heart 12:
Donoho senior Amanda Sherer wowed her home-court crowd with seven 3-point baskets and finished with 26 points. AnnaMarie Woodfin added nine points as the Falcons picked up a Class 1A, Area 12 victory.

Megan Lett led Sacred Heart with seven points.

Donoho (2-8) hosts Jacksonville Christian in an Area 12 game Tuesday.

White Plains 46, Cleburne County 25: At White Plains, a balanced attack helped the Wildcats improve to 14-3.

Shelby Wood scored a game-best 12 points and added five rebounds and three steals. Carley Wood had 10 points and six boards. Amber Greenwood recorded nine points, four steals and three assists while Taylor Snellgrove had eight points and three assists.

Toni Epps led Cleburne County with eight points.

White Plains hosts Woodland Thursday afternoon.

Spring Garden 43, Collinsville 35: At Spring Garden, the home Panthers remained the team to beat in Class 1A, Area 10 with their win over Collinsville.

Darian Gaines paced Spring Garden’s attack with 11 points. Tykeah Rogers scored 10 points and Emory Reedy had nine points in the win.

Now 5-0 in area games and 13-2 overall, Spring Garden plays at Ranburne Thursday.

Hokes Bluff 57, Piedmont 29: At Hokes Bluff, the Eagles closed the final 90 seconds of the first half with a 7-0 run to claim a 24-14 halftime advantage then gradually extended that lead in the second half.

Riesha Thompson scored nine points and added seven rebounds, five assists and four steals for Piedmont. Carlie Flowers scored eight points and Keshauna Jones had eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Carlie Shields of Hokes Bluff led all scorers with 21 points.
