JACKSONVILLE — Griffin Thomas and DaMarcus James, Jacksonville State’s two record-setting offensive weapons, were both named All-Americans on Wednesday.

Both were named to the second team of The Sports Network’s FCS All-America Team.

Thomas set JSU and Ohio Valley Conference records for field goals (23) and points by a kicker (134). He was 62 of 63 in extra points, also school records.

Almost half of Thomas' extra points came following touchdowns scored by James.

James set the JSU single-season rushing record (1,477 yards) and set the OVC record for rushing touchdowns (29). He scored at least one touchdown in each of the Gamecocks’ last 12 games.

And he was sure-handed. He had only two fumbles in 292 carries.

“It’s an awesome honor to receive,” Thomas said. “I saw ‘Heavy’ (James) was on there, too.

“We’re both working behind the O-line pretty much the entire game, so that shows we had a real successful year at O-line and ‘heavy’ and my positions. We’ve done pretty well this season.”

The pair’s inclusion on the team gives JSU 51 total All-Americans in its football history.

The OVC placed 12 players on the three teams.
