That’s what most fans have been screaming for years. Well, it’s finally here. The final BCS national championship will take place in January with the college football playoff scheduled to begin next season.
As you already know, it will have four teams with the semifinal games played at one of the four BCS bowl locations and the championship game played at a predetermined site. The first will be at JerryWorld (Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas in January 2015).
The more important part of this the playoff is how the teams will be selected. There will be a 13-person committee who will ultimately decide which teams will make up the final four, but there’s no concrete criteria for what the requirements will be.
Is strength of schedule more important?
What about winning your conference?
Does it matter if a team had an ugly early loss, but finished strong?
Also, who’s to say what one committee member values is just as important to another member?
Say what you want about the BCS, things usually worked out and the two best teams played for the national championship.
Now, with all of the questions surrounding the committee and it’s process for selecting the four teams, maybe the BCS and its computers weren’t so bad after all.
