Police say a 41-year-old man has been arrested on a charge of sexual abuse involving his stepdaughter.

The suspect, who was in the Calhoun County Jail Friday, faces a charge of sexual abuse of a child under 12, a felony, according to court records which became available Friday.

According to Anniston police Capt. Allen George, the 12-year-old victim told her mother in August that the suspect had been touching her breasts for about a year in their Anniston home.

George said he did not know why the victim reported the behavior when she did, but after she was interviewed by the Calhoun-Cleburne Children’s center, a warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest in September.

According to a police report, the suspect was initially arrested by Cleburne County Sheriff’s deputies. George said he did not know how deputies found the suspect.

The suspect has a bond set at $30,000, according to court records. No court date had been set as of Friday.
