A Calhoun County jury this week found an Anniston woman guilty of burglary in a 2012 incident.

Keshawn Nicole Green, 33, had been accused of burglarizing a home belonging to Regina Grigsby in November 2012.

Green was originally charged with second-degree burglary, but was found guilty of third-degree burglary, a Class-C felony, according to prosecutor Sheila Field.

Field said in an emailed statement that Grigsby had been home alone on Nov. 9 when she heard a knock on her door around midnight.

When Grigsby opened her door, two women rushed her, knocked her down, hit her and dragged her around the house by her hair, Field wrote.

Field said that the motive of the attack was never clear, but said it had something to do with an argument about Grigsby’s neighbor.

Field said that before the women left, they asked Grigsby for her house phone and when she told them she didn’t have one, they took her cell phone.

According to Field, Grigsby walked to her neighbor’s house and was taken to Stringfellow Memorial Hospital for treatment for her injuries.

Field said an officer and an investigator met Grigsby at the hospital to question her about the incident. Field said Grigsby had met Green in passing because Green was a friend of her neighbor’s. Grigsby was able to tell police a nickname she had heard her neighbor call Green, Field said.

Field said an investigator ran the nickname through the department’s database and was able to compile a photo lineup. Through the lineup, Field said, Grigsby was able to identify Green as the women who took her cell phone.

According to Field, Green’s attorney, Randy Payne, did not deny that an assault had occurred, but said it had taken place outside of the residence.

Efforts to reach Payne were unsuccessful Tuesday and Wednesday.

Green could face anywhere from one to 10 years in prison for third-degree burglary, according to Field. Green’s sentencing was set for Feb. 19 at 9 a.m.
