I was working at Commercial National Bank in the bookkeeping department. It was located in the basement and I had been there for three months. We were sitting around a long table putting checks in alphabetical order.

The maintenance man came down the hall and told us that President Kennedy had been shot. The lady to my left exclaimed, “I hope he’s dead!” She immediately clapped her hand over her mouth and said, “Oh, I didn’t mean that.” We were shocked at both the news and her statement. We may not agree with the president’s views at all times, but certainly no one wants him dead.
