I was a career U.S. Air Force airman stationed at Lakeland Royal Air Field in the United Kingdom. Having worked the night before, I was at our home at Weeting, Brandon, Suffolk, UK. I went to the base at once to find out what I could. People didn’t seem to talk a lot about it, there was mostly a lot of sadness. The base commander had a base-wide meeting at the theater and everything known was passed on. President Kennedy, a World War II veteran, was very well-liked in the military and we were to miss him a lot.
