WEAVER — Weaver High opened its season with an 80-59 victory over the

Pleasant Valley Raiders on Monday night.

Chris English led the Bearcats, scoring 19 points to go along with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Weaver had four others score in double figures.

Brandon Smith finished with 15 points, four assists and four steals.

Shond McKinney added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Paul Hubbard chipped in with 12 points, six assists and five steals.

Delo Forbes scored 11 points, dished out six assists and grabbed four

reboundsFor Pleasant Valley, Daniel Faucett led the way with 21 points. Trey

Phillips added 14 points and Lucas Ford chipped in with 13.

Weaver (1-0) hosts Lincoln today. Pleasant Valley (0-1) travels to

Hokes Bluff today.

Girls

Oxford High scored its first victory of the year with a 50-33 win at

Vestavia Hills.

Yellow Jackets’ senior Casmine Copeland led the way with 17 points,

while Lexie Higgins pitched in 16. Deanna Clark had 10.

Oxford (1-1) will play again today at Albertville.
