ONEONTA — Jacksonville hit a wall Friday night, having its season ending to Oneonta 56-7 in the same way the Redskins have beaten multiple opponents this season.

After Oneonta took a 35-0 lead into halftime, the Redskins were driving to score again before Payton Sims intercepted a pass at the 2-yard line.

Dominique Thomas got Jacksonville on the board shortly afterward with a 98-yard touchdown run, making the score 35-7. From there on, however, it was all Oneonta.

Despite the second-round loss, it’s still a season to remember for the Golden Eagles.

Head coach Clint Smith has begun building a successful program, which made the playoffs for the first time since 2009 and made the second round for the first time since 1999.

The Golden Eagles eight wins this season are the most for a Jacksonville team since 1999. While the core of the team centered around the 13 seniors this season, even underclassmen are now familiar with winning as Jacksonville heads into next year.
