A man arrested on three sexual abuse charges was in the Calhoun County Jail today with warrants for his arrest saying that he allegedly engaged in sexual contact with minors.

According to warrants for his arrest, a 37-year-old Alexandria man came into sexual contact with three boys, ages 7 to 13.

The warrants say the alleged abuse occurred between Jan. 1, 2003 and July 31, 2011.

Sheriff Larry Amerson said the man was involved in school sports and a trusted friend to the victims and their families. During each instance, the suspect allegedly fondled the boys, Amerson said.

The suspect was arrested on two first-degree sexual abuse charges Nov. 1 and released on a $30,000 bond Nov. 4. The suspect was re-arrested Nov. 5 on another charge of first-degree sexual abuse, which is considered a Class-C felony. Suspects convicted of Class-C felonies can face jail sentences of two to 20 years.

The suspect was in the Calhoun County Jail Tuesday with a cash bond set at $100,000, according to jail workers.

He is to appear in court Dec. 9, according to court records.

It is The Star’s policy not to identify suspects in sex crimes unless there is a conviction, due to the stigma associated with such cases.
