Another investigative piece from a national media source has dropped, launching another “yeah, but” scenario as cynical eyes turn toward NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.

Yeah, but will the NCAA investigate seriously?

Yeah, but can the NCAA meet its heightened standard of proof with no means to compel anyone to talk, let alone tell the truth.

Yeah, but does the NCAA want to take on yet another potential embarrassment, further exposing its inability to enforce an amateurism standard that few believe anymore?

Cases like those involving Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel have conditioned our cynical looks toward Indianapolis, and we’re conditioned to see the NCAA’s comical response as merely the other shoe.

Yahoo Sports has text messages and financial records that make it look like former Alabama defensive end Luther Davis acted as a “concierge,” funneling improper benefits from six agents and financial advisers to SEC players including former Tide offensive tackle D.J. Fluker.

There appears to be no evidence showing knowledge from interests representing the schools. If it can be proven that Davis gave improper benefits to the players mentioned in the report, then four of the six agents/advisers have said Davis acted on his own. The other two declined comment.

So there it is, NCAA. The bet here is that little comes from it.
