PIEDMONT — Mallory Roberts’ life consists of volleyball, volleyball, softball and volleyball.

The lone senior on the Piedmont High volleyball team is always on the court either literally or mentally, finding ways to improve her game.

Roberts, 17, started playing in the fifth grade and became a part of the Bulldogs’ volleyball program in seventh grade. She has spent the last three years playing a little bit of everything for coach Grace Strott. The Southern Union commitment said her favorite position is passer, but that spot is normally taken by Roberts’ sister, Torre, who plays libero for Piedmont.

In addition to playing for the Bulldogs in the fall, Roberts participates club volleyball for the Gadsden Volleyball Club and softball for the Crimson Flames. She also runs track for Piedmont in the spring.

During a break in practice recently, Roberts sat down with Anniston Star Sports Writer Brandon Miller and fielded 10 questions:

Question: Do you love winning or hate losing more?

Answer: I love winning more. It’s the best feeling in the world, but I could kill somebody when we lose. With winning, just knowing that you’re beating the competition and the work in practice makes you work even harder just to win. You want to go all the way to the state championship.

Q: What do you want to do for a profession?

A: I want to be an athletic trainer or a coach, I haven’t decided. I want to be around the sport. I don’t think I could ever get away from it. If I was a coach then I could help people in the sport I love.

Q: What would you do if your family won the lottery?

A: We’ve always talked about building a gym in the backyard so we could play volleyball. If you’ve noticed, it’s the center of my life. They’ve talked about starting their own club team. It could happen since my sister has two more years in high school.

Q: What’s your favorite website?

A: I’m always on YouTube watching volleyball stuff. I watch people’s highlights just to get a sense of what my video could be and then if my passing or setting are off then I’ll watch videos to learn how to fix it. I’m actually making a highlight tape right now.

Q: Where do you get your news?

A: Yahoo! It has quick information, and it’s also the home screen on my computer.

Q: What makes a good television show?

A: Reality. I love reality TV. My favorite show is Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I also like Duck Dynasty. I really like the family focus on both shows. My family is really important to me.

Q: As a fan, what’s been your biggest volleyball memory?

A: Probably watching the 2007 girls team go to the Elite Eight. I was on the B-team and they hadn’t moved me up yet.

But it was awesome because it was the furthest we’ve ever gotten and knowing it was my team out there just made all the difference.

Q: What’s your favorite hobby during the summer?

A: My parents own a farm and I love helping out with it. I’ll gather the cows and bail hay more than anything. I’m always busy.

Q: What is your dream vacation spot?

A: I’d love to go to Greece. It looks really pretty. There’s not any particular city — I’d just like to go there.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: Remember the Titans. I just love it. Their passion to the game and the way everyone comes to together is great. I’m all about teamwork.
