Since today is the first day of classes at most schools around Calhoun County, it's only fitting that this op-ed in The Washington Post caught my eye.

Written by a teacher named Hillary Greene, it's a brutally honest discussion about the teaching profession and how it treats teachers who aren't afraid to speak their mind.

Greene writes, "If we want our public schools to create the next generation of thoughtful, engaged Americans, we need to support the people whose job it is to make an impact, and we need to work especially hard to retain the types of teachers who question the status quo and speak up even at the risk of being politically incorrect."
