Two Anniston residents were charged Wednesday with stealing items from a storage unit in March, police said this morning.

Tangee Caver Heath, 46, and Michael Lavone Hughley, 59, both turned themselves in at the Anniston Police Department and were charged with second-degree theft, a felony.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said Heath and Hughley stole furniture valued at $800 out of a 33-year-old man’s storage unit on the 1200 block of South Leighton Avenue. Sparks said the theft occurred on March 25, but the victim didn’t discover the items were missing until April 29. Sparks said police identified several suspects involved in the theft and have recovered most of the stolen items.

Sparks said today that police expected to make additional arrests in the case.

Heath and Hughley were each released on $7,500 bonds from the Anniston City Jail on Wednesday. Court appearances are scheduled for Aug. 26.
