A woman told police this morning that her estranged husband broke into her home and hit her repeatedly.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the 28-year-old woman discovered her husband, whom she is divorcing and no longer lives with, at around 2 a.m. in her home on the 3200 block of West 14th Street. Sparks said the victim got out of bed and discovered the suspect standing in the hallway. The man hit the victim’s face several times, Sparks said, and fled when one of her children walked into the hallway. The victim called police and discovered her husband got into her home by removing a window air conditioner unit, the sergeant said. Sparks said the woman did not require medical treatment.

Sparks said this morning that the incident was under investigation.

Any suspect could be charged with second-degree domestic violence, a felony.
