Anniston police today were investigating a $3,640 theft from the Nelford Inn on South Wilmer Street.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said a former inn employee collected two weeks’ worth of rent from guests and kept the money. Management discovered the money missing on June 21 but did not file a report until Tuesday, George said. George said he did not know how many guests the suspect stole from.

George said today a suspect has been identified by inn management and could face charges of first-degree theft, a felony, according to a police report.
