JACKSONVILLE -- It will be at least the beginning of next week before Jacksonville State has its new women's basketball coach.

JSU athletics director Warren Koegel said the finish line is "close," but he would be working over the weekend on the hire after it became difficult to reach all pertinent parties Friday.

"Logistics is probably a good word for it," Koegel said. "Not everybody was available to talk to at the same time. We probably won't have it done until the end of the weekend into Monday.

"There's no issue; everything is fine. At this point we don't have a coach because there hasn't been an offer given, but we're getting closer and closer. We're still going through the process."

Koegel said he would like to have a new coach on board before the start of recruiting July 1. The vacancy was created when Annette Watts resigned earlier this month to take a high school teaching and coaching job in Greeneville, Tenn. The program hasn¹t had a winning season since 2005.
