Anniston police today were searching for a man they say snatched his girlfriend’s purse as the couple walked down Dooley Avenue early this morning.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said a 41-year-old woman told police that her boyfriend demanded her purse as they walked along the 1500 block of Dooley Avenue at 2 a.m.

According to Sparks, the victim said that when she refused to hand over her purse, her boyfriend punched her, shoved her to the ground, took the handbag and fled.

Sparks said investigators are searching for the suspect, who could face charges of third-degree robbery.
