The Learning Garden’s “Growing in the Garden” summer program for kids, sponsored by the Jacksonville Farmers Market, is looking for donations. Their wish lists includes wood for boxes, nails, gardening tools, paint and paint brushes, arbors and trellis, plant pots, a small tool shed and organic or all-natural gardening materials. If you have any of these items and would like to donate, email email@example.com or call 205-393-3510.
Growing in the Garden will teach children ages 2-17 everything they need to know about growing and maintaining an all-natural, sustainable garden — from preparing the land to harvesting crops.
Workshops will be held Saturday from 8-10 a.m. beginning June 15 at the Jacksonville Farmers Market.
Cheaha Brewpub now open, sort of
Owners of the Cheaha Brewing Company in downtown Anniston say a grand opening is just a few weeks away. But a taste of what’s in store at the craft brewpub and restaurant has been available since its soft opening last weekend. Thursday through Sunday, visitors can check out the unique atmosphere at the old L&N Freight Train station while dining on a light menu of “vittles” and regional beers.
“We want to give folks the opportunity to come by for a bite and a brew, take a look around, and enjoy the community atmosphere of the brewpub,” says co-owner Rodney Snider.
Soft-opening hours for the Walnut Avenue brewpub are Thursday from 4-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4-10 p.m., and Sunday from 12-6 p.m. For more information, visit www.cheahabrewingcompany.com or visit their Facebook page.
Look for June issue of Relish
The upcoming issue of Relish will include such features as “The Brotherhood of Cheese” and “Confessions of a Mango Mama.”
You’ll also get recipes such as Spicy Miso Chicken Tacos, Israeli Mango and Cucumber Couscous and Shaved Fennel-Golden Beet Salad.
Look for it in Thursday’s Anniston Star.
