The headline on an Anniston Star editorial on April 24 read “An uncertain future” for Alabama’s Democratic Party. The heading should have read: “Democrats have never been more certain of our future than we are today.”

We are calling ourselves the Alabama Democratic Majority, because we are. We have been around for a very long time, but we have been a silent majority. Now we are standing up and speaking out. And we have the good fortune of Alabama Supreme Court Justice (retired) Mark Kennedy’s leadership.

For the last two years Judge Kennedy made every effort to right our democratic ship, but he has been blocked at every turn by those who think 1973 ideas are all we need in 2013. Judge Kennedy freed himself from those chains when he resigned as chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party. Now he can work his magic within the Democratic Party of Alabama without being shouted down at committee meetings or having to deal with power brokers who think their way is the only way.

The Alabama Democratic Majority will endure and grow because all Alabamians want positive leadership. Democrats and independents across Alabama have prayed for this day, and it is finally here. It is now, and it is our time. Judge Mark Kennedy took the first step for us. We will take the second step ourselves. And I hope that the Anniston Star will be watching so that the world will also know that we are right.
