Police were searching this morning for a man who reportedly robbed an Anniston gas station Saturday night.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said a man wearing a gray pullover jacket, black wind pants and a motorcycle helmet went to the Samco on the 3000 block of U.S. 78 around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect told the cashier he wanted to buy cigarettes and when the register opened he showed the cashier a black handgun, George said.

The suspect told the cashier to empty the register into a black bag and fled on a red motorcycle, the captain said.

No one was injured during the incident, George said. The suspect stole $50 from the gas station, according to a police report.

George said police were reviewing video surveillance from the business today.

A suspect could be charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, according to the police report.

Police encouraged anyone with information regarding the robbery to call the Investigative Division at 256-240-4000.
