A 79-year-old woman told police Wednesday that a man stole more than $100,000 from her in the parking lot of an Anniston bank.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the woman had her “life savings” in her purse to deposit at a bank on the 100 block of Bill Robison Parkway. The woman reportedly dropped the purse under her car in the parking lot and a man offered to help, Sparks said.

The suspect grabbed the purse, got into his own car and fled, the sergeant said.

The theft occurred around 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to a police report.

Police were reviewing video footage from nearby businesses Thursday, Sparks said.

According to the police report, a suspect could face charges of first-degree theft, a felony.
