Quentin Lamar Williams, 34, of Anniston was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, according to Jacksonville police Chief Tommy Thompson.
Thompson said Williams was discovered at the Vann Thomas Motel on McClellan Boulevard in Anniston.
Shortly after Williams allegedly robbed the Shell station at 2380 Pelham Road around 6:14 a.m. Sunday, Jacksonville police posted a photo of the suspect on social media sites asking for help identifying the man.
“We determined who he was thanks to Facebook,” Thompson said.
Thompson said Williams jumped over the counter and held a box cutter to the 65-year-old cashier’s throat during the robbery. No one was injured, the chief said.
Williams stole less than $100 from the cash register, Thompson said, and fled in a silver Land Rover.
Thompson said police discovered the car belonged to a “female companion” of Williams and the woman contacted investigators about the robbery.
Williams was in Jacksonville City Jail Monday. No bond or court had been set.
