An Anniston teen was assaulted Thursday while walking on Old Birmingham Highway, according to Anniston police.

The 19-year-old woman told police she was walking Thursday around 1 p.m. on the 2000 block of Old Birmingham Highway, Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said.

Sparks said the victim was struck from behind by an unknown suspect.

The woman was hit repeatedly with a metal pole, Sparks said.

The sergeant said the victim was taken to Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries she is expected to recover from.

Sparks said Friday morning the incident was still under investigation.
