Anniston police Wednesday said a man was assaulted Tuesday when a group of people broke into his apartment.

The 37-year-old victim was in his home on the 300 block of Elm Street at 6:10 p.m., according to a police report.

During that time, a group of 15 people forced their way into the victim’s apartment, Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said.

Sparks said the victim was hit multiple times and knew his attackers only as acquaintances, Sparks said. The man did not report any injuries to police, the sergeant said.

Police were investigating the incident Wednesday, Sparks said.

Suspects are likely to be charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, Sparks said.

The sergeant said the assault is encompassed in the burglary charge.
