Re “Do away with antiquated blue laws” (Speak Out, March 21):

I agree with Speak Out writer Brian Wilkins, the issue of Sunday alcohol sales is about freedom. Maybe you don’t want to have a drink with your meal, but there are some who do and that should be our rights. Religious rationale is trying to force ideas on all of us.

I understand that Sunday is a day of worship; nobody is trying to change that. But we have rights, too. It seems like every time there’s an idea that comes along to increase revenue in Calhoun County, our elected leaders try to shoot it down. I think they want us to be locked back in time.

It looks like they will never make any progress to help our county.
