This app, designed for the iPad, is like having a sewing school/pattern shop right at your fingertips. I like the app because it keeps your sewing patterns in one spot, and a video is available to show you how to make the items. It is an excellent app for beginners as well as those with more sewing experience. iOS only. Free, with in-app purchases.
This app by Quilters Club of America is designed for the iPhone but works on my iPad. It lets you search by city/state/zip to find the quilt shop nearest you. The contact information for the shop is listed along with a map for directions. If the shop has a website, there is a link to it as well. This app is helpful when you’re on vacation and looking for a quilt shop to visit. For iOS and Android. Free.
To those not familiar with Craftsy.com, it’s a website that offers online course and workshops on sewing, quilting and other crafty topics. With the Craftsy app, you can access your online classes from your iPhone or iPad. It allows you to learn at your own pace, re-playing the video if you don’t understand something the first time around. The instructor will answer any questions you may have through the website. I’ve purchased one Craftsy class, and when I click on the app on my iPad it takes me straight to my class video. So many different courses are offered on the website, there’s sure to be something for any crafter. Please note, you must first join the Craftsy online community to take a class. For iOS devices. Free, with in-app purchases.
This app by Martha Stewart Crafts is my favorite of all the apps I own. It lets you make greeting cards from a desktop with drawers full of goodies to use on your card. There are different shapes and sizes for cards but not for scrapbook pages. You may print your creation from your home printer or send it to Snapfish to be professionally printed. It is very user friendly with tutorials available on how to use tools if needed. Notifications will let you know when new design packages are available for purchase from the app store. You could run your battery down playing with this app, it is so much fun. At only $1.99 each, they are well worth the money. Designed for iPad. $4.99 with additional in-app purchases.
This app is designed for the iPhone but works just fine on my iPad. It gives you the name of a quilt block and the amount of fabric needed for the size block that you want to make. Each quilt block design is offered in multiple variations. Cutting and sewing instructions for every step of the process are included, as well as tips and helpful hints.
This particular app can no longer be found in the App Store, but a similar app, Quick & Easy Quilt Block Tool, is available on iOS for $3.99.
