Anniston fire Lt. Bryan Tumlin said the fire department was called to a single-story home at 2604 Simpson Street Thursday at 8:50 p.m. Four trucks responded to the blaze that burned 25 percent of the home, Tumlin said. Tumlin said no one was inside when firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames on the right side of the house.
The fire began in a bedroom, according to a press release emailed by Capt. Chris Collins. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze five minutes after their arrival, the report said.
“We believe the fire was set intentionally,” Tumlin said.
The fire is still being investigated by Anniston firefighters and the Anniston Police Department, Tumlin said.
A suspect is likely to be charged with second-degree arson, a felony, according to a police report.
