So the new Anniston City Council wants to stop the police from patrolling outside the city jurisdiction to concentrate on better protecting its voting citizens. Council members say 25 percent of the crimes committed are outside the city limits. I say, just 25 percent?

The council wants to put more boots on the ground for neighborhood patrols, just like the previous council did. However, when it came time to divide the tax revenues and Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson said hold on, those taxes collected in the police jurisdiction don’t belong to Anniston anymore, the council changed its tune.

This new council apparently wants to spend its money on bicycle trails instead of furnishing police protection to the public that pays the lion’s share of the revenue and gets the least for its money.

Go ahead, Anniston City Council, put all your cops on bicycles patrolling the projects if you want. But stop jerking our chains and let the sheriff properly set up to do the job. The new council looks like just more of the same.
