WEDNESDAY’S LIST ... of beans ’n greens ’n other things: * * * UNLESS YOU’VE had lab work done at the Tyler Center here in Anniston you may not know Vickie Mize.

I do, having sat in her blue chair a couple of times lately (needles and everything) and RMC has a really good one in Vickie.

All told, she has been at RMC/Tyler for 33 years. Her first 20 was secretarial, the last 13 in the lab.

“We moved to Georgia for five years and when I came back, there was nothing available as a secretary,” says Vickie. “They said they’d teach me how to do lab … and I love it here.”

People, our town is blessed with medical facilities, RMC and Stringfellow. Maybe I’ve told you that before, but not today.

* * * A FEW days back, I turned on the laptop, plugged it into my 46-inch Samsung, and watched Alabama crunch Notre Dame … again … for its third national title in four years.

A confession is that, counting the night of the game, I have now watched it five times. I’m getting about as bad as with that Greatest Western of all time, Shane, which I have watched some 30-plus times.

So why do I do stuff like that?

I love being entertained and I love knowing how it’s going to end, the good guys win … every time.

It’s akin to watching a John Wayne movie. In case you’ve haven’t thought about it, we haven’t won a war since The Duke left for “up yonder.”

* * * I’M NOT sure just what kind of sermon the Rev. Truman Norred is planning for Sunday, but he needs to make it a good one. Sitting in the audience will be a lovely lady by the name of Sheryl Kirby Norred, who has been listening to his preaching for 51 years … as of today.

He’s my pastor at Blue Mountain Baptist and will agree that she is the best part of him.

* * * TOP TEEN: Meet Haley Nicole Harrison, a senior at Walter Wellborn High School where she carries a 4.0 GPA, will deliver the Valedictorian address at spring graduation, and is co-president of the Student Council.

Haley is also president of the FFA, has been a class officer for three years, in the FCCLA for two years, and a dance line Panterette for three years. She is also a four-year member of the math team.

Haley plans to attend Jacksonville State for a couple years before moving on to UAB in Birmingham to study neurology and anesthetics.

“As Haley’s chemistry and physics teacher, I have watched her grow into a very mature and conscientious woman,” says Student Council Advisor Mary Jones. “Haley possesses all the qualities that make her an effective leader. She is dedicated and trustworthy, a great communicator and delegator. Haley has a positive attitude and an ability to inspire others.”
