Several weeks ago, after unsuccessfully appealing to several offices of the state highway department, I wrote to one of our state legislators about my concern for the safety of the intersection of Henry Road and the new Veterans Memorial Parkway.

As drivers enter from Henry Road, they are forced to yield by looking behind them and merge into downhill, high-speed traffic with no merge lane, a recipe for a fatal accident. The situation would be easily fixable, as there is adequate room for a merge lane.

In the process, I copied Anniston Mayor Vaughn Stewart. Within 24 hours, I received a reply from Mr. Stewart that he had already met with the state Department of Transportation on two separate occasions and had assurances the situation would be remedied. This is just one example of what our new city government is doing.

People of Anniston, it is so wonderful to have a forward-thinking mayor and City Council who are working for the good of the city. I see brighter days ahead for Anniston with this team.
